New Contract and Many Thanks!

Life keeps moving. You wake up one day and the day brings the completely unexpected. Turmoil turns to opportunity, fear brings joy, and uncertainty remains, well, uncertain.

Yesterday I was greeted with a new book contract – after a very long wait. I must admit, I really needed that news. It reminds me that there are bigger things out there than the daily grind, and it validates that I am, first and foremost, a writer.

When I received word that my first novel, Lazarus Cane, was to be published, what I felt was unlike anything I had experienced in my thirty plus years on this planet. For the first time, I actually felt bigger than myself – if that makes any sense. I knew in that moment that my words were going to be out there, touching the lives of people that I had never met – and probably will never meet.

I know, I am just a fiction writer. My words are that of death and sex and useless violence, but I truly believe that there are no useless words. Fiction, like anything else, spreads knowledge. And even though I am writing about murders and whatnot, I still get to share my life experience and point-of-view in order to keep the story moving.

My Facebook fan page is liked by people from other countries – people that will likely never see the beautiful corner of the world that I live in everyday. But I get to take them there. I get the opportunity to share the sites and smells and native tastes – and that is not something I will ever take lightly. I may never become a James Patterson or Jeff Lindsay, but I get the joy just the same.

Hopefully when my new novel, Michael Faust, hits the shelves in a couple months, it will propel my career, and my life in a new uncertain direction. But at the very least I will be able to entertain people if only for a few precious hours.

Though I write alone, I could never do it alone. Thank you to everyone that has touched my life – both positive and negative – I am forever thankful.
